The Locust of MM2 Taser Guide
Close-range shock, limited charges, and when to hold versus fire in a grab situation.
The taser is the panic button in MM2 of The Locust. It shocks the Locust for about five seconds and buys you a window to reach a vent, a locker, or a second exit. Unlike the camera, which has longer range but requires aim, the taser is close-range and limited-use. This guide covers when to hold it, when to fire it, and what to do when it disappears from your slot.
The taser costs Keys in the shop. Before you buy, read the items and equipment overview and the equipment tier list.
What the taser does
Community reporting confirms:
- Close-range shock that stuns the Locust for approximately five seconds
- Limited-use — once it leaves your slot, it does not reload mid-round
- Requires proximity — you must be near the Locust to land it
The exact range, cooldown, and number of charges may vary by shop row or Pre-Alpha build. Test the practical range in a live round before relying on it at a specific distance.
When to buy the taser
Buy the taser if:
- You die in melee range regularly
- You cannot reliably flash the camera at distance
- You are still learning map layouts and need a panic tool for one-door situations
Skip the taser if:
- You can already break sight consistently
- Camera aim is reliable for your playstyle
- You have enough Keys for both and want to hold one in reserve
When to fire the taser
Fire when:
- The Locust is committed to a grab and you cannot outrun the animation
- You are in a one-door room with no second exit
- The Locust is between you and your planned escape route
Hold when:
- The Locust is distant and not yet committed
- You are in a multi-exit room where breaking sight is faster
- You can reach a vent before the Locust closes the gap
Do not fire the taser as a warning shot. Five seconds is enough to enter a vent, not enough to cross a whole nest. Wasting it on a distant target leaves you with nothing when the grab actually comes.
Pre-Alpha taser bugs
Community footage from August 2026 shows the taser sometimes leaving the inventory slot while the player is not certain it landed. If your taser disappears:
- Assume it fired even if you did not see the stun
- Hide anyway — the Locust may still be stunned
- Do not stand in melee range to check whether it worked
The bug does not mean the taser is unreliable. It means the UI feedback is unclear in the current build. When in doubt, treat the tool as spent and reposition.
After firing the taser
- Move immediately — do not wait to see the stun confirm
- Head for a known vent or locker — not a random corridor
- Do not teabag — crouch into cover instead
- Relocate once the five seconds end — the Locust will resume the hunt
If you fired the taser and the Locust was not in range, you now have no defensive tool. Break sight and play more cautiously until the next round.
Taser versus camera
| Tool | Range | Duration | Charges | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taser | Close | ~5 seconds | Limited | Grab panic, one-door rooms |
| Camera | Far | ~10 seconds | Reusable | Distant freeze, planned escape |
Use the camera for planned freezes. Use the taser for emergencies. Carrying both is ideal; using them in the wrong situation is worse than carrying neither.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for nest survival, codes, and Locust hunts.
How long does the taser stun the Locust?
Approximately five seconds, based on community reporting. The exact duration may vary by shop row or Pre-Alpha build.
How many taser charges do I get?
The taser is limited-use. Once it leaves your inventory slot mid-round, it does not reload. Check the shop description for the exact charge count.
When should I use the taser?
Fire when the Locust is committed to a grab and you cannot outrun it, or when you are in a one-door room with no second exit. Do not fire at distant targets.
Why did my taser disappear without working?
Pre-Alpha UI bugs can make the taser leave your slot even if you are not certain it landed. Assume it fired and hide anyway.
Taser or camera first?
Taser for close-range panic and melee deaths. Camera for distant freezes and planned escapes. Carry both if you have Keys.
What do I do after the taser wears off?
Relocate immediately. The five-second window is for entering a vent or reaching a locker, not for celebrating. The Locust resumes the hunt when the stun ends.
