The Locust of MM2 Keys, Camera, and Taser
Farm Keys on the map, buy freeze tools before skins, and hold the taser for a grab.
Everything you buy in MM2 of The Locust starts as Keys or Robux. Keys drop on the nest floor. The shop in the lobby (and whenever the Pre-Alpha UI exposes it) spends those Keys on monster skins, abilities, a camera, and a taser. You can also buy Keys directly. The Locust role itself is a 100 Robux unlock, not a Key sink — that path is how to become the Locust. This page is the survivor loadout: what to pick up, what to buy, and when to press the tool.
How Keys work
Keys are physical pickups. They sit in classic MM2 rooms, along nest corridors, in secret rooms, and in underground wings. The HUD tracks how many you are holding. Some rounds put a group objective on the screen: collect about 30 keys. That is a lobby goal, not a personal quota. If the counter is at 15/30, you should not be the only avatar in the basement.
Loot on your path. A Key in a lit doorway is free. A Key behind a TV clump is bait. A Key downstairs is a trade: extra currency versus a stair funnel the Locust loves. Maps explains those spaces. How to survive tells you when to skip a sparkle because you heard a hunt.
Codes are not a farm right now. As of September 2026 there are no active codes. Community! once granted +100 Keys and is expired. When a new string drops, use the top-right Codes button. Steps: codes hub and how to redeem. Do not idle in lobby waiting on a code to skip the floor pickups.
Shop rows: what the money is for
Camera. Equip, aim at the Locust, flash. The flash can paralyze the monster for about 10 seconds. That is a hide window, not a photo mode. Fire it when the Locust is committed to a grab, then sprint (Left Ctrl or E) to a locker you already chose. Flashing a distant silhouette wastes the tool and tells the hunter you have it.
Taser. Close range. Shocks for about 5 seconds. Limited-use — once it is gone from the slot, do not expect a reload mid-round. Save it for the grab you will not outrun. Pre-Alpha clips show the taser leaving inventory while the player is unsure it hit. Assume it fired, hide anyway, and do not stand in melee range to “check.”
Abilities. The shop lists powers and movement upgrades (speed rows appear in public play). Buy movement only after you own a freeze tool, unless you already survive most chases on binds alone. Confirm what the row actually does in a live round; names in Pre-Alpha are not a wiki guarantee.
Monster skins and other creatures. Cosmetic or alternate monster bodies. Buy these after you can live. They do not stun the Locust. If you want to hunt, the 100 Robux Locust role is the actual unlock; skins are not a substitute.
Keys for Robux. Skip unless you are funding a camera/taser right now. Paying to skip floor pickups makes sense when you are learning maps, not as a default.
Rank the same rows on the equipment tier list. This page stays on use.
Spend order for a new pocket
- Taser if you die in melee.
- Camera if you can keep the Locust on screen long enough to flash.
- A movement ability if the shop’s live description is a sprint you can feel.
- Monster cosmetics.
- Extra Keys for Robux only to finish step 1 or 2.
That order matches the survival checklist. Binds for firing tools: controls. If you cannot find the fire button on mobile, treat it like the Locust attack-button bug — hunt extra HUD glyphs before you buy a second copy.
Using freeze tools without feeding the hunter
The Locust is a player. They learn. If you flash every time they enter a room, they will feint, wait out the 10 seconds, and take the locker you sprinted to. Hold the camera until the model is actually swinging. After a successful freeze, do not teabag. Crouch (C) into cover. Relocate once the stun ends if the hunter is still in the wing — hiding spots.
Taser is the panic button. Five seconds is enough to enter a vent, not enough to cross a whole nest. Pre-place the vent in your head. Push (Q) is not a substitute for either tool; shoving a teammate into the Locust is how 30-player stairs fail.
30-key rounds without a wipe
When the objective is collect about 30 keys, assign the map in your head: main-floor pickups first, basement second, TV rooms never. Two players holding a locker bank can cover a cluster. The rest should not all descend. If the Locust is downstairs, the upstairs Keys are free. If the Locust is upstairs, do not be the hero who “finishes” the counter in the open. The guides hub and getting started first-night list assume this discipline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for nest survival, codes, and Locust hunts.
What do Keys buy?
Monster skins, abilities, a camera, and a taser. You can also buy Keys with Robux. The Locust role is 100 Robux, not a Key price. Shop order: taser and camera first.
How long do camera and taser stun the Locust?
Camera flash can paralyze about 10 seconds. Taser shocks about 5 seconds and is limited-use. Fire them in grab range, then hide. Chase follow-up: how to survive.
Are there codes for free Keys?
Not as of September 2026. Community! (+100 Keys) is expired. Redeem future codes with the top-right Codes button. See codes and how to redeem.
Should I collect all 30 keys in a collect round?
Help the lobby counter, but do not die in a basement funnel for the last Key. Nights reward living. Split the map using maps.
Why did my taser disappear?
Limited-use plus Pre-Alpha bugs. If it left the slot, assume it fired even if the Locust did not freeze, then hide. Input notes: controls.
Do monster skins make me the Locust?
No. Cosmetics change looks. The playable Locust role is a 100 Robux unlock. Read how to become the Locust.
